"Consensus is the process whereby everyone gives up what they believe in...for something that nobody believes in. What great cause in history would have been fought and won under the banner: ‘I stand for consensus?' Consensus is the absence of leadership.”
-- Margaret Thatcher
Personal My legal name is Joseph Glen Dauben, but I've been known as "Joey" most of my life. I grew up in a
little town called Ovilla, south of Dallas, with two sisters and my parents. I still love Ovilla and Ellis County. Believe me when I say that. I absolutely love Ellis County, Texas. I'm a graduate of Midlothian High School, and just so we're clear: (a) yes, I dressed up as Ross Perot for 5th grade Halloween at J.R. Irvin Elementary, and (b) yes, I'm through and through an MHS Panther ;) My intention is not to sound cocky or arrogant, but to give friends and outsiders an honest look at me personally, socially, spiritually and politically.

Consulting As you can probably tell by looking at the left-hand side of my profile, I'm a pretty busy guy. I'm involved both in the newspaper/publishing business and in a new political consulting venture I helped start with various friends of mine. There's also that long-held goal of eventually getting to law school, but we'll see.
Dauben Inc/Texas International Property Associates If you've stumbled upon this profile looking for information about my company, then I ask that you contact my attorneys at texasipa@gmail.com. That's the quickest way to do so. E-mailing me on MySpace won't do much in the way of making a potential deal. However, if it's just curiousity that you seek about my company, take this bit of advice: there's way more to the story than what's been printed :)
"The ONE MAN who is doing MORE than anyone in [Ellis County] to raise our level of freedom is Joey Dauben, and I congratulate him with all my heart!!"
I was also called by Jon Stewart's The Daily Show in October of 2005 after my congressional "fun-raising " tactic. I was set to appear on the show, but Congressman Joe Barton had a "scheduling conflict." : /
"I want to be the Rupert Murdoch of Ellis County." - Joey Dauben
Updated I'm now the news editor at The Ellis County Press, where I still pen a weekly news column each week; aside from the reporting duties, I have this internal "urge" to want to be at the office or in one of our county's hot spots. Telling people the truth about their government is something I tried to suppress since 2006, when I was involved with every political organization I could gain membership to. The newspaper is where I belong, though, and more importantly, the news business. I wouldn't trade this experience and the education I've received as a result of my already-six years of journalism know-how for anything. Some say I'm an extremist when it comes to political views, and more and more, I'm trying to figure that out. I think politicians should be honest with the people they serve. So I guess if that's an extremist position, I'm guilty. If I ever feel that an issue needs to be brought out in the open on a larger-than-local scale, I will employ every tool I have. That goes for the TV reporters I know, the radio people, the bloggers, the print shops, anything...I simply don't like people getting screwed. It's my job to help people deal with an oppressive authority structure. When people get a phone call from me or when something hits the blog, you know it's going to have an impact. That's not just me talking. That's based off of results.
"Own nothing, control everything." - David Rockefeller
Business I was a newspaper reporter in my junior year of Midlothian High School, covering Panthers football, and originally sought to become a sports writer. I spent two years at Focus Daily News in DeSoto doing that before being turned to a
conservative-independent newspaper called The Ellis County Press. It was there that my love for local politics flourished. I was set on becoming an investigative reporter, and I did become one, and I won awards for it, and became very well known. This would pave the way for short-lived political career. I fashion myself as a Goldwater Libertarian, but ultimately, I'm a reporter at heart, in actions and in spirit. God has blessed me with tremendous talent. I don't hide what I do. I'm rarely long in what I'm trying to say. I want to get to the point quick, and if people are offended by that method, I honestly don't have a problem with that. Those who get offended the most are afraid of the truth, and that's to be expected when your main platform plank is "truth-telling." Others would rather I just go away and leave public officials alone, but for one thing, if it wasn't for me in Ellis County -- not to be cocky -- nobody would have a single clue as to what's really going on here. I take my role very seriously. Some will say I campaign dirty, or others will accuse me of personal attacks. But, ultimately, the service I provide is a double-edged sword: you're going to have people hate and love you at the same time. The barometer of success is how much hatred I get in the form of phone calls, e-mails, letters, etc. Or the outright personal attacks on me and my character. Oh well, at least I can go to bed at night knowing I'm not dishonest.
Political I flirted with the Republican Party from 2006 to early this year ('08), but I've come to realize that parties are useless. It's really the person's platform that I'm after. However, I was once a Libertarian, and I've since re-joined the Libertarian Party. My political heroes include Barry Goldwater and Dr. Ron Paul. I'm not an anarchist, left-leaning libertarian. I'm a pro-life, socially moderate* Libertarian. What's a socially moderate Libertarian? I don't believe gays should adopt, but I don't believe in government involvement in marriage at any level. I also think marijuana should be decriminalized and those that are on harder drugs should get help in rehab, not prison. Personally, I've run for office four times - Midlothian school board,
U.S. Congress and Waxahachie City Council. I don't view those races as downsides. I've got more campaign "in the trench" experience than most politicians in office have. And I started running when I was 23. I've got very thick skin to withstand the constant warfare that one would
find in the political world. But my newspaper journalism experience taught me the traits of being honest with people. I wouldn't trade this life for anything. Elected officials call me asking for advice. That is one of the most humbling
things I've ever experienced. I meet with mayors, councilmen, county officials, judges, former judges - you name it and I've met with them. Not just on a newspaper venture, but professionally, politically and socially. It's humbling and I take it very seriously.
"When one gets in bed with the government, one must expect the disease it spreads." - Rep. Ron Paul
Religious I was raised Southern Baptist, saved at FBC-Ovilla in 1996, but didn't "get it" until July 22, 2002. It was
that night that God opened my eyes and opened my heart to the Jewish/Hebrew roots of Christianity. Unfortunately, it took a near-drug overdose to get me to realize what I was doing was not the right thing. I was heading down a spiral and was rescued - I don't use the word saved. I was literally rescued. I've been Messianic ever since.

Goals/Ambitions I'll be real honest about it: I want to run for President of the United States one day, and I believe that I'll do it. I have this strange view that your attitude shapes who you will become. If you think it, more than likely it'll happen. You'd be surprised at all the insults I get for saying this stuff, but I'm committed to accomplishing my goals and dreams. So far - get this - I've checked off on every single one of them so far. Wait until I'm 35, America. I'll prove all of you wrong. And then you'll vote for me ;) However, I also want to make loads of money in the private sector, managing and owning my businesses. It would give me the flexibility of (a)
affording what it would cost to run, and (b) allow me the freedom to travel and do all the other rewarding things you get when you own your own business. I can't hide the fact God's allowing me to do all this though.
If not for being one of those chosen, I wouldn't see this much success.
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Your Score: Paleo-Conservative
You scored 54% Personal Liberty and 63% Economic Liberty!
A paleo-conservative believes in moderate government intervention on personal matters and little to moderate government intervention on economic matters. They support capitalism as an economic system and therefore are opposed to what they consider to be a welfare state. They believe in property rights or homestead. Some paleo-conservatives tend to have an "isolationist" bent to them, and therefore are more likely to be opposed to foreign interventions then most rightists. Paleo-conservatives are reminiscent of the "old right" of the 30's, 40's and 50's. Strong Paleo-Conservatives border on Libertarianism.
Networking It pays to know people, and that's why I try not to sound arrogant when I tell friends and new acquaintances that I've got a few connections here and there. After all, it's who you know, not what you know or what you do. Schools don't teach enough about networking - why do you think people join fraternities? Some will call it flirting, too, which isn't entirely accurate. The more people you meet, the larger the chance of helping someone. That's the way I see it.
An ultimate goal of mine: Getting this band to play a political campaign fundraiser.
